How To Stay Warm While Waiting on Furnace Repairs?
If your furnace has broken down, and you aren’t able to get it repaired right away, you might feel desperate for ways to stay warm this winter. Keep in mind that one of the best ways to prevent furnace breakdowns is to schedule maintenance at the beginning of fall. Being without adequate heat in the winter can not only be dangerous, but it can be uncomfortable. Here are ways you can stay while while waiting on furnace repairs.
1. Warm Up Blankets
Throw some blankets in the dryer before bed. Having layers of warm blankets draped over you can feel really nice this time of year. If you have a heated blanket, you can use that that too – but make sure you are practicing safety if that is the route you choose to go. Don’t leave it on for too long as it can cause you to overheat and increase your body temperature. Also, make sure you’re not using these blankets for pets. Their body temperatures are different than humans, and this could be dangerous for them.
2. Use Space Heaters
Much like heated blankets, you can use space heaters to keep warm – but remember to practice safety when you do. Never leave them on when you’re not home or when you are asleep and make sure no flammable materials are hanging off of them. In fact, space heaters should be kept at least 3 feet away from anything flammable.
3. Drink Warm Beverages
Something as simple as drinking a cup of hot tea before bed is a good way to help you stay warm when you don’t have heat. Try warming up items like soup, tea, coffee, or hot cocoa.
4. Move Around
When you’re really cold, sometimes the last thing you want to do is get up and move around. However, a quick warm-up can quite literally warm you up. By doing some jumping jacks, jogging in place, cleaning your house, and doing other things that require movement, you can find yourself actually sweating – and wanting to cool down!
5. Shut All Doors and Windows
Keep what heat you do have trapped inside by making sure all doors and windows are closed. Not only that, but make sure blinds, curtains and shades are closed as well.
6. Layer Up
Put on a few layers of clothing if you need to! There’s no harm in wrapping yourself up in a fleece blanket, two sweatshirts, a hat and some mittens. Just make sure you don’t overheat.
