Should I Have My Home’s Insulation Replaced

How often do you think about the insulation in your home? If you’re like most other people, the answer is a resounding Not Often. More often than not, we just assume it keeps the cold air in during the summer while making sure the hot Florida air stays firmly on the outside.

But while that’s generally true, there will come a time when we have to begin thinking about replacing the insulation. Now, unlike other appliances and features, there isn’t a designated shelf life for insulation. It’s not like a water heater or HVAC unit – it wasn’t designed with a certain benchmark to reach in mind. That said, there are a few reasons having your insulation replaced is a good idea.

Should I Have My Home’s Insulation Replaced?

Freedom Air & Heat prides itself on making sure our neighbors are getting the most out of their homes and not wasting the energy their airflow systems produce every day. Scan over the indicators below, and if you notice any of them in your home – or if you realize the larger-scale items apply to you – then give us a call. Our home-insulation experts are ready and willing to work with you to find the right solution for you and your family.

Things You May Notice

These are indicators that can pop up all of a sudden, and if you spot any of them, then having someone come take a look is a wise idea. Your insulation could be leading to a larger problem, something that can pose a greater risk to your home.

  • Soggy Insulation: If insulation gets wet, there’s a twofold problem. The first is that – obviously – water has seeped in through the roof and a leak needs to be fixed. The other problem, insulation itself getting wet, is a guaranteed replacement job. Insulation, when wet, is useless.
  • Significant Leaks: Sort of piggybacking off the previous point, leaks can mean wet insulation. Even if it isn’t wet, though, the insulation can settle over time and leave gaps which allow water to get through.
  • Higher Energy Bills: Failing insulation will not trap the cold air your AC is pumping through the home as well, and the unit will have to work harder as a result. When that happens, you’re naturally going to notice some higher energy bills to compensate for the added workload it is having to shoulder.

How Old Are We Talking?

A reason to replace your insulation that doesn’t involve spotting a problematic issue, however, is its age. Depending on when it was installed, the insulation can settle, deteriorate and rot. Even if it doesn’t wilt away, insulation will lose its efficiency naturally over time, the more it works.

Replacing it will give your home a fresh temperature protector and keep it all working smoothly and efficiently.

Although there are plenty more reasons to swap out your home’s insulation, the ones we laid out are surefire indicators that it’s time to give a professional a call. Luckily, Freedom Air and Heat’s technicians are well-versed in all things insulation, and we’ll handle the entire process without you lifting a finger.
